Break Your Lawn's Drug Dependency
Chemical fertilisers can be a great help in the growth of your lawn, but over time they can also severely degrade the quality of your soil, and hence quality of your lawn. Chemical fertilisers are made up from ingredients which have been chemically processed and refined to boost the number of nutrients in your soil. The only problem with this is that soil is made up of more than just nutrients. An integral part of your lawn is organic matter, various micro organism, earthworms and bacteria, which are all beneficial for plant growth.
When you choose to use chemical fertilisers on your lawn, you are only giving it the benefit of a limited number of nutrients which can only be absorbed to a certain extent, leaving the excess to be washed down to the lower water levels and your soil bereft of micro organisms which help support plant life. In natural environments, soils are fed through a natural process of birth, death and growth of plant and animal life. Who has the time to do that when cultivating a modern household lawn? Plus it can look a bit untidy!
To counteract the damage caused by chemical fertilisers, manufacturers have developed organic fertilisers, which are better able to provide your lawn with the necessary nutrients and which help boost the biological activities of micro organisms found in your soil. This will help you wean your lawn off its habit of chemical fertilisers.
There are different types of organic fertiliser such as cow manure, mushroom compost, green waste compost, etc, which are all intended for different uses around the garden. The best organic lawn fertiliser to use is Lawn Top Dressing which has slow release nutrition to feed your soil which ultimately leads to improved root structure and growth. Lawn Top Dressing also helps to break down the thatch layer and improve drainage.
It’s best to be on the safe side and check with the manufacturer about the proper use and application of any organic fertiliser you intend to use.
