Lawn Repair Tips
If you have budget and time constraints, then it may be a good idea to consider lawn repair rather than starting from scratch. How do you decide whether to give your lawn a second chance? Well, if there is only about 40% of grass left and the rest is all weeds and moss, then lawn repair may not work for you. However, if there is still a semblance of hope then these lawn care tips will help:
Dress it up: Bring out your favourite shovel and tackle the old dead areas. Add a good quality lawn top dressing as it will build soil quality, add resistance and even out the bumps. Top dressing also encourages the growth of new shoots. A lawn lute will come in handy so invest in a sturdy one that won’t let you down.
Plant the seed: It’s time to plant lawn seed. You should sow your seed at 35g/square metre. Avoid burying the seeds into the soil, just cover them lightly and press it down gently with the back of a hoe.
Add fertilizer: Our next bit of advice is to give your space a bit of tender loving lawn care by adding a high quality fertilizer. It’s important to read the instructions carefully so you don’t go overboard. Spread it around on the lawn turf either by hand or using a tool.
Keep it moist: You need to keep an eye on the turf top soil to ensure that it doesn’t dry out especially if it’s humid outside. While you don’t have to leave the ground soaking wet, a good amount of moisture will encourage the lawn seeds to germinate.
Stay off it: In about three weeks, you will start to see some activity. It’s important not to walk on the new patches so just give it freedom to grow. You can mow the new lawn once the grass is 2-3" tall. Soon it will start to even out with the rest of your lawn and won’t look patchy and different.
Maintenance is key: Using a watering can you can apply a weed killer but pick a warm day as weeds love to surface when it’s hot. Remember that most weed killers contain salt so if it’s an unusually hot day then avoid this activity as it could scourge the grass.
Lawn repair may require some investment of time, effort and money but it will be well worth the effort. Hopefully, these tips will help get you started in the right direction. Monitor your progress so your lawn recuperates quickly and lasts that way for a long time to come. Lastly, remember to invest in reliable lawn products so you get a good return on what you’re paying.
