Yew (Taxus Baccata) Hedging Information:

Yew hedging is the the best choice for a classic, traditional clipped, garden hedge.

Its stunning, dense dark green foliage and slow growth habit allow it to produce just the best formal hedges and topiary.

The plant itself is of course very important. Yew is an ancient species that existed before the last ice age. Because it grows so old (thousands of years) it has a special place in our heritage having been revered by our ancestors.
Yew hedging should have its growing point nipped out early in its life to promote bushy growth.

Growing
Yew will thrive in most garden soils as long as they drain well. It can accept full sun or shade.

Pruning
Yew only requires pruning once a year, even for a very neat and tidy formal hedge. You should do this in the Autumn. If required it can be cut back to the base to be rejuvenated.

Plant Yew hedging at 2-3 plants per linear metre.
